Our lab's Chief Medical Director is W. Scott Goebel, M.D., Ph.D., who is among the most respected pediatric oncologists and cryobiologists in the country today. Dr. Goebel is a member of the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation Program at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, where he has performed over 40 cord blood transplants.
Dr. Goebel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Chemistry and Biology, and a Medical Doctorate Degree and Doctorate of Philosophy in Microbiology and Immunology. His residency in Pediatrics was completed at the Washington University School of Medicine at St. Louis Children's Hospital, and later he completed his Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Indiana University School of Medicine at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children.
Dr. Goebel's research has included the treatment of genetic disorders by transplantation of gene-corrected hematopoietic stem cells, as well as studies on long-term engraftment of stem cells. He serves as an Investigator at the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
