Our lab's Chief Medical Director is W. Scott Goebel, M.D., Ph.D., who is among the most respected pediatric oncologists and cryobiologists in the country today. Dr. Goebel is a member of the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation Program at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, where he has personally performed over 40 cord blood transplants in pediatric patients.
Dr. Goebel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in both Chemistry and Biology from Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, prior to earning his Medical Doctorate Degree and Doctorate of Philosophy in Microbiology and Immunology from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the St. Louis Children's Hospital at the Washington University School of Medicine in Missouri, and a Fellowship in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Currently, Dr. Goebel serves as an Investigator at the Herman B. Wells Center for Pediatric Research and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where his research has included the treatment of genetic disorders by transplantation of gene-corrected hematopoietic stem cells, as well as studies on long-term engraftment of stem cells. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Society of Hematology and the American Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
